It has been a joy to serve the city of Schenectady for over 80 years! We believe that an important part of our ministry is to be the very best neighbor we can be through sharing love and care in extraordinary ways.
After doing some research and hearing about the current “Electric City Recharged” initiative, our church found that the Woodlawn Neighborhood does not have a Community Pavilion. A place for families to gather for celebrations like graduations, birthdays, bridal/baby showers, family reunions, and other larger gatherings. We also have hopes and dreams of hosting events like Food Truck Fridays, a Farmer’s Market, and Community Cookouts. This pavilion would be available to community members for a nominal donation that would go towards continued maintenance of the structure and property upkeep surrounding the structure.
Schenectady Church of the Nazarene has been given funding for this project through a grant and individuals; and yet we still have work to do in acquiring the rest of the funds needed for this project. We will be applying for at least one more local grant and we are reaching out to businesses, neighbors, friends, and family to see who will join us in building a community staple for the Woodlawn Neighborhood.
At Schenectady First Church of the Nazarene, we want to increase community engagement as well as get to know our neighbors better; this is just one way we plan to accomplish that! Thank you for your willingness to partner with us in providing a space we will share with the community!
